SSM Girls Prep: 19U National Champions!

In her final game as a Saber, Becca Ruegsegger was at her best. Leading the team into the third with a 2-0 lead, she made 18 saves through the first two periods of play, however she did need a little help from a friend. Brianna Decker, a senior center from Dousman, WI also chipped in with a save of her own. During a scramble late in the second period, she recognized Ruegsegger out of position and came in behind her with a perfect butterfly slide to Becca's blocker side post to make a pad save and allow Ruegsegger to cover for a whistle. Decker's save helped keep the Mission off the board through 2 periods of play.

In a penalty filled third, Becca stopped 20 of 21 shots and was SSM's best penalty killer. She was instrumental in holding the Chicago Mission scoreless on 9 power-play opportunities, 3 of which were 5-on-3s and allowed just one even strength goal. Becca finished the game with 38 saves and a 5-1 victory to cap off a great career as a National Champion.

For the tournament, the senior goaltender stopped 124 of 132 shots on goal in 298 minutes between the pipes. She had a perfect 6-0 record to go along with 2 shutouts and 1 assist with a .939 save percentage and 1.37 goals against average.
