Sunday Skills Session to kick off this week!

Sunday, September 13 will officially kick off the year with TGC Sunday Skills Sessions at Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, MN. These hour and a half long sessions focus on all aspects of goaltending and run from 7:15-8:45am. From the start of practice we work on our skating, edgework, and balance. Movements and recoveries are a major focus as we believe that repetition of proper movement and recovery technique lead to muscle memory, making this second nature to our goalies. TGC will push you to pay attention to detail while allowing you to develop your own personal style. Detail in your movements, skill set, mental approach, positioning, and rebound placement. Join Coach Des and the TGC staff bright and early. We GO FOR IT before other goalies are even awake.

TGC @ St. Paul-Highland 8/17-21

TGC is excited to be in St. Paul this week at Highland Arena for a sold out camp.

6 way tie for GOLD

During the TGC Goalympics on Friday in Eagan, all of the goalies were competing hard in the last ice session. A few years back, as a staff, we decided that it is important to allow the TGC goalies to use all of the new skills that they have learned throughout the week in a competitive setting. Thus, the TGC Goalympics were born. With Coach Grant acting as the Goalympic Commissioner, we break the goalies into teams and let them compete against eachother and the coaches for the Goalympic Gold. Through these competitive games; we focus on rebound control, recoveries, patience, save selection, focus under pressure, and teamwork. The coaching staff and snipers work hard to try to score goals, while the goalies are trying to put themselves in good position to force the shooters to take quality shots. We had six rotations at Eagan's Goalympics and with a few teams starting out 2-1 and others starting out 0-3, it looked like we would have a three team battle for the Gold Medal. The goalies were able to see the standings as they submitted scores from the various events and our team captains were able to motivate their teams to continue to work hard and compete. Going into the last event of the day, we had three teams tied with a 2-3 record and the other three teams were 1-4. The gold medal was still up for grabs and we were anxious to see which goalies would step up and get their team a victory to take home the gold. When the final whistle blew and the team captains rushed over to submit their scores, we had a TGC first. All six teams finished with a 2-4 record and everyone was a TGC Goalympic Gold Medalist! It was an unbelievable highlight to another exciting week in Eagan!

TGC PRODIGY: August 3-7

Prodigy camp at the Bloomington Ice Garden kicked off this morning. A full camp of eager up and coming high school age netminders kicked off the first day of the week with some dryland training to work on strength, endurance, fitness, flexibility, agility, and balance. The staff is excited to be back in Bloomington for the second time this summer to continue to help our goalies make minor adjustments to improve positioning, rebound control, post-save recovery, and the goaltender's ability to read plays. With three hours of on-ice high intensity training at a 2:1 ratio, we know that our TGC goalies will get the most out of this weeks prodigy training and we are looking forward to another great week in Bloomington, Minnesota. Let's GO FOR IT!

TGC Blaine: July 27-31

The TGC staff is spending the week at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minnesota. This weeks staff includes Coaches Des, Grant, Andrew, Tyler, and Jeff. One of our favorite destinations of the summer is Blaine. We have many returning TGC goalies along with a few newcomers, who will definitely enjoy the TGC experience. This week's schedule is a bit different as camp begins with dryland at 10:30am, followed by lunch/classroom/video analysis, and the on-ice portion running from 1:30-4:30pm. The nice part about having on-ice training at the end of the day is the fact that it allows the discussion of the days points of emphasis and drills to occur prior to strapping on the pads and making saves. TGC goalies know that we don't just put the pads on, there is a bit of thinking involved in goaltending.

Looking forward to a great week in Blaine. Let's GO FOR IT!

TGC Pro Camp at Bloomington Ice Garden

This morning we kicked off our inaugural TGC Junior/Pro Camp in Bloomington, MN. With all of the goalies in attendance playing Junior or College hockey this coming season, we are able to work with our TGC goalies who continue to elevate their game and take it to the next level.

A few of the goalies at camp this week have been training with Coach Des and Coach Shari since the early years of TGC. We have watched these goalies go from Squirt, to Peewee, to Bantam, to High School. Now TGC is able to work with these goalies as they make the jump from High School, to Junior, to College Hockey. Who knows, maybe in the next few years, we will see a few make the jump from college to the professional ranks!

Our first session went very well. The goalies went through a great 3 hour training session, which put an emphasis on sound positioning, reading plays, rebound control, efficient recoveries, and playing the puck.

We can't wait to get back on the ice at 9am tomorrow! Everyone GOES FOR IT!

TGC at SSM wraps up today.

Isaak Tjaden works on his movement as Coach Des looks on.

We had a great week of TGC at Shattuck-St. Mary's School with all of our goalies improving in all aspects of their game. The improvement in rebound control and recoveries from Monday to Friday has been very impressive. All of our goalies worked hard and we look forward to having them train with us again soon.

Tendies finally get a victory in Crickle Ball!

Cooper Cook blasts a hit off of Coach Des as his teammates look on during the 3-game Crickle Ball Series on Thursday night on the Parade Field at Shattuck-St. Mary's School.

After going 0-7, the Tendies came out strong and picked up 2 big wins! Sean, Isaak, Matt, Saj, Orion, Tristen, and Alex scored six runs in the first inning and held on for the victory.

Mariah, Nick, Drew, John, Cooper, Chris, and Gage picked up a victory in the third game despite being short one of their strongest players, Caleb, who was out of the lineup for the night to participate in a tryout.

TGC Summer Kicks off at SSM...

We are really going for it this week at Shattuck-St. Mary's School during TGC's Prodigy and Verge Residence camp. Sunday night started off with an hour long on-ice session where we focused on skating and fundamental movements. A chance for our goalies to get on the ice and prepared for the vigorous week of training ahead of them.

We have had 7 great on-ice sessions already and all of our goalies are working hard and getting better. This week is SOLD OUT and we have goalies training with us from all over including: Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. In just 3 days, we have focused on fundamental movements, skating, rebound control, recoveries, walkouts, passouts, cut-ins, high and low one-timers, wrap-arounds, screens, deflections, and most importantly...always watching the puck!

We have spent time each day off the ice analyzing individualized video, as well as looking at NHL game tape and breaking down different goaltender's situational play. During our off-ice training this week, our focus has been on strength, speed, quickness, agility, and flexibility.

Our nightly activities have been full of excitement with a best of three Crickle Ball Series on Monday night, followed up with a night in front of the TV watching an exciting Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs featuring some great goaltending by Chris Osgood and Marc-Andre Fleury. Two goaltenders with very different styles, who have the ability to make big saves; something that we love to see at TGC. We want OUR goalies to work hard to develop and fine tune their own individual style. We like to show a variety of ways to approach different situations, but want our goalies to choose what works best for them.

We have another big Crickle Ball Series coming up tonight! The teams are battling hard and the Tendies are looking to even up the series. Crickle Ball is TGC's original stick ball game using a goalstick paddle for a bat.

Well... it's time for us to get back out there and GO FOR IT!

TRABER TO ADVANCE TO USA HOCKEY SELECT 16 NATIONAL FESTIVAL

Peter Traber, a 6'3, 178 lb goaltender from Houston, Texas was the only goaltender selected to advance to the USA Hockey Select 16 National Festival out of the Rocky Mountain District. The Rocky Mountain District is comprised of seven states; Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. There was tough competition during the weekend selection camp with some talented goalies participating from throughout the district, but Traber had a strong tryout and will participate in the Select 16 Festival later on this summer.

During the 2008-09 season, Traber spent time in net with Shattuck-St. Mary's 16U Boys Team. In a penalty filled third, Becca stopped 20 of 21 shots and was SSM's best penalty killer.
